Service history

Every service, every check, every receipt, on the bike it belongs to

A service history is only useful if it is complete. Componentry makes recording the work the same motion as doing it: complete a reminder and it becomes a record, retire a part and the replacement inherits its schedule, attach the invoice and it stays with the bike.

Full service logs

A service log is the record of a job: what was done, on which components, by whom, with measurements and notes. Book it, complete it, and share it as a professional report with your mechanic.

  • Status, mechanic, and crash flag

New, Booked, and Completed keep upcoming work visible. Note who did the job and flag a crash so the history explains itself later.

  • Measurements and notes

Chain stretch, pad thickness, and anything else you measure lives on the service, so trends are visible next time.

  • Shareable service reports

Generate a report of the work for your mechanic, a buyer, or an insurer.

Good to know. Service logs and reports work the same on the web and in the app. Reports can be shared with a mechanic or kept for warranty and insurance claims.

Maintenance checks for the small stuff

Not every look at the bike is a service. A maintenance check records a quick inspection, a chain measurement, a wax, in seconds. If it turns into a job, swap it to a full service log and nothing is lost.

  • Seconds to record

Date, components, a reading or a note. Enough to keep the history honest without the ceremony of a service.

  • Chain stretch as you read it

Enter the whole number your checker shows. Implausible readings are caught before they distort the model.

  • Waxed or lubricated

A single toggle records the chain treatment, and the power-loss model uses it.

Good to know. The swap from check to service log is one-way, on purpose: a job that grew should stay a job.

Receipts and invoices, on the record

The shop's invoice, the receipt for the parts, the photo of the packing slip. Attach them to the service or check they belong to and they are there when a warranty, a resale, or an insurer asks.

  • Photos and PDFs

Capture a receipt in the app or attach the PDF the shop emailed. Each file is checked on the way in and refused with a named reason if it will not do.

  • On services and on checks

A receipt attaches wherever the money was spent, whether that was a full service or a quick chain swap.

  • Private by design

Attachments belong to you and to the bike. Nothing is shared unless you put it in a report.

Good to know. Take a photo, pick from your library, or attach a PDF from Files. Attachments are private and are deleted with the bike.

Complete a reminder, get a record

Ticking a reminder used to be the end of the story. In Componentry, completing one asks whether it was a check or a full service and records it, so the reminder and the work are the same entry.

  • Check or service, your call

A quick lube becomes a check. A cassette swap becomes a service log, pre-filled with the reminder that prompted it.

  • Reminders on every service

Open a service and the outstanding reminders for those components are a checklist. Tick them there and they are recorded against the job.

  • Permanent

A completed reminder stays attached to the service it was completed in, so the history shows what prompted the work.

Good to know. Repeating reminders count from the day you completed them, and distance reminders roll forward from the odometer at completion.

Retire a part, keep its story

Every part comes off eventually. Componentry retires it inside a service log, records the wear it reached, names the replacement, and hands the old part's reminders to the new one.

  • Wear at removal

The percentage and the date the part came off are kept, so you learn what your parts actually last.

  • Reminders follow the replacement

Set up a chain-lube reminder once. When the chain is replaced, the reminder moves to the new chain and starts again.

  • Pre-filled from the bike page

Start a retirement from the component and the service log opens with the part, the date, and the replacement ready to confirm.

Good to know. Retirement happens in a service log so there is always a record. Reminders follow the replacement with their schedule, interval, and pause state, and their clocks and odometers reset.

Questions riders ask

What are Service Logs and how do I use them?

Service Logs are records of maintenance performed on your bikes. Each log tracks the date, work performed, components serviced, and any notes. Service Logs progress through states: New (planning), Booked (scheduled with a mechanic), and Completed (work finished). They provide a complete maintenance history for each bike.

Can I generate reports for my bike mechanic?

Yes, Componentry generates professional Service Reports that you can share with your mechanic via email or download as PDF. Reports include complete bike information, all installed components with current wear statistics, items flagged for service, and your notes. This helps mechanics understand exactly what needs attention.

How do I track component replacement history?

When you complete a Service Log, you can retire old components and add new replacements. The retired component's history is preserved, and the new component is linked to it. This creates a complete chain of custody showing every component that has been installed on your bike, with dates and mileage for each.

Can I use service logs for insurance or warranty claims?

Yes, Service Reports provide documented proof of maintenance history. They include dates, mileage, components serviced, and work performed. This documentation can support warranty claims by demonstrating proper maintenance, or insurance claims by providing detailed equipment records. Crash-related services can be specifically flagged for documentation purposes.
