Deleting Personal Activity Tags
When to Delete Tags
Consider deleting a tag when:
- You no longer use that training method or classification
- You've consolidated multiple similar tags into one
- The tag was created in error
- Your training philosophy has changed significantly
Before Deleting: Important Considerations
Impact on Activities
- Deleting a tag removes it from ALL activities where it was applied
- This action cannot be undone automatically
- Consider hiding the tag instead if you might want to restore it later
Alternative to Deletion
- Hide the tag instead of deleting it to preserve historical data
- Hidden tags maintain their connections but won't appear in selection lists
- You can always unhide tags later if needed
Deletion Process
Step 1: Initiate Deletion
- On the Activity Tags page, find the Personal tag to delete
- Click the Delete button (trash icon) next to the tag
- A confirmation dialog will appear
[Screenshot placeholder: Delete button and confirmation dialog]
Step 2: Confirm Deletion
The confirmation dialog will show:
- The tag name being deleted
- Number of activities currently using this tag
- Warning that this action cannot be undone
Step 3: Final Confirmation
- Read the warning carefully
- Type the tag name to confirm (if required)
- Click "Delete Tag" to proceed
- The tag is permanently removed from your account and all activities

What Happens After Deletion
Immediate Effects:
- Tag is removed from all activities
- Tag no longer appears in filter lists
- Tag is not available for future use
Data Integrity:
- Activities maintain all other tags and data
- No other activity information is affected
- Deletion is logged for audit purposes
Best Practices for Tag Management
Regular Review
- Periodically review your tag list for unused or outdated tags
- Consolidate similar tags to maintain a clean organization system
- Archive old training phases rather than deleting historical tags
Before Making Changes
Document Your System
- Keep notes about your tagging methodology
- Consider the impact on historical analysis before major changes
- Plan tag consolidation carefully
Backup Considerations
- Export activity data before major tag restructuring
- Consider creating a new tag before deleting an old one
- Test changes with a small set of activities first
Editing vs. Creating New Tags
Edit When:
- Correcting typos or improving clarity
- Adding descriptions to existing tags
- Minor refinements to tag names
Create New When:
- Significantly changing the meaning or purpose
- Splitting one concept into multiple tags
- Adding completely new training concepts
Bulk Tag Management
Replacing Deleted Tags
If you've deleted a tag and want to apply a different tag to those activities:
- Use activity filters to find activities that previously had the deleted tag
- Look for activities missing expected categorization
- Apply appropriate replacement tags
- Update your tagging methodology documentation
Tag Consolidation Strategy
When consolidating multiple tags into one:
- Create the new consolidated tag first
- Apply the new tag to all relevant activities
- Verify coverage before deleting old tags
- Delete the old tags one at a time
- Document the change for future reference

Troubleshooting Common Issues
"Tag Not Found" Error
- Occurs when trying to edit a recently deleted tag
- Refresh the page and try again
- Check that you have the correct permissions
Changes Not Reflecting
- Clear browser cache if changes don't appear immediately
- Ensure you clicked "Update Tag" to save changes
- Check that you're editing the correct tag type (Personal only)
Accidental Deletion Recovery
- Contact support immediately if a tag was deleted accidentally
- Provide the exact tag name and approximate deletion time
- Recovery may be possible from system backups (not guaranteed)
Remember that thoughtful tag management improves your ability to analyze training patterns and find specific workouts. Take time to plan changes rather than making hasty modifications that might disrupt your organizational system.
